What is Vision 2020?

Vision 2020 is…

  • a national initiative convening allies and women leaders from across the country with the purpose to advance gender equality by the year 2020.
  • actively supporting the work of 102 delegates across 50 states. National Delegates are implementing initiatives to raise awareness for gender equality, develop shared leadership in their workplaces and lives, and creating opportunities for success for future generations of girls and women.
  • working with a growing list of national organizations to amplify and support the work of increasing women in leadership in all aspects of American life

The two most power-filled words…"I Can"

Vision 2020 is a brainchild of Drexel University College of Medicine and has been the spearhead to obtain delegates (2 each from each State of the U.S.) and secure goals, visions, and sponsors to reach the goal of Vision 2020.

More than 1,000 women registered on our Web site and more than 400 delegate applications were received. Two delegates from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia will be selected. Vision 2020 announced the selection of the National Delegates on May 19, 2010.

The National Delegates attended the October 21-22, 2010, American Conversation on Women and Leadership at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pa. They participated in each of the eight American Conversations and are developing Action Projects to move American toward equality by 2020.

Each Vision 2020 National Delegate is a woman nominated by an organization or three individuals and meets the following criteria:

  • Has a demonstrated commitment to helping women and/or girls.
  • Commits to serving a three-year term as a Delegate with Vision 2020 (2010-2012), attending the 2010 Conversations and the follow-up annual conferences in 2011 and 2012.
  • Is a leader in or affiliated with an organization (professional, social, or grassroots) that is working in one of eight topic areas:
    • Arts and Culture
    • Business, Law and Finance
    • Communication and Media
    • Education
